Halloween 1978 vs. Halloween 2007

Okay So I thought I would start with something simple... not too old... not too new... Okay Thirty one years old isn't that old?? Most of you will have seen this maybe, perhaps the new one so I am going to compare the two :D Yes my first movie review is a comparison of the original and remake... how exciting??? hmmm...

So typical and cheesy... it's

HALLOWEEN (1978)

Okay so for a long time this was my favorite horror movie, to some extent it probably still is.
O000 Flashback...

I was Seven or eight and Halloween 6 I later found out, was on television and watching the opening ten to fifteen minutes terrified me! Four or Five Years later I watched the original, i taped it from the television... watched it the next day at 11:00 am? Yeah, I know!

I loved it! Had to go see my grandma that day, got back watched it once more, maybe twice!

It really is brilliant, it's simple, low budget (like many old horrors), it was full of inspiration that inspired all the slasher films that followed... many people know this anyway!

PLOT:
After murdering his sister at the age of six, Michael Myers is institutionalized in a sanatarium under the care of Dr. Loomis (Donald Pleasance), fifteen years later he escapes to return home and reek havoc on his home town, Haddonfield. He begins by returning to his now deserted home, begins stalking a blonde Laurie Strode (a young Jamie Lee Curtis) and her friends, but why? (Watch Halloween 2 :D)

After being there during the escape, Dr. Loomis returns to Haddonfield where he knows there will be danger and with the help of the not so convinced town sheriff, he must put a stop to Michael Myers' evil murdering spree.

Only the 70's could get away with a plot like that, right?

Okay so why do I love this movie? Why, if you haven't already, should you watch this movie?
Because it is such an iconic, talented movie in the history of horror the 'Gone with the Wind' of horror movies so to speak.

The movie may seem a little slow to the modern horror movie fans (I call them saw fans), the film does not boast the latest special blood spewing effects but, along with an outstanding soundtrack, it does provide the typical conventions of a horror movie that make them fun to watch!

The famous 'I'll be right back' phrase... don't have sex, drink or do drugs or you will die, the cut off phone line so you can't ring the police (How can you get round that today with mobiles?) Well maybe if you're on t-mobile you would have trouble getting through to anyone!! Am I allowed to say that? Oh well!

This movie set the rules for those that followed and if you haven't seen it and are maybe a bit sick of today's horror repetition, same old same old, how could you not be? Then step back a bit and rent, find ( I say BUY!) this beauty! And Enjoy!

:D

This next bit won't take long...

Rob Zombie's Halloween (2007)

Well... clearly being a die hard Halloween fan it is mandatory that I hate this film before I even see it, how dare he try and remake this treasure! But no, I really wanted to like it and I'll admit the trailer got me excited!!

Ok to start with... what is this >>>
This looks like something for a transporter film
not Halloween!! Jeez!

Okay, so the whole sanitarium, mental Myers
is rather brief in the 1978 version, yeah and?
Rob felt he had to show more of the reason for this
for whatever reason... okay fair point if you're going
to make it serious and interesting... what does he do?

Michael's mum is a stripper, everybody teases him,
his sister isn't that nice, the dad is a jerk..kids bully him
so rather than act out and rob a store or something, he
decided to kill everyone... then for the next forty five
minutes we have to see Dr. Loomis (Malcolm Mcdowell) sitting at a table with Myers silently, aka boring.

Valuable stalking time guys being taken up by
unnecessary reasoning for this kid's evil mind.
The escape, oh we have to see this too,
some drunk guards if i remember correctly
brake into his cell (as you do) and rape some
other patient they dragged in and the now 12 foot Michael? Kills them and escapes, goes home blah blah and quickly finds the new Laurie Strode who seems a bit of a bitch in all honesty, and same as the original plots to kill her friends and her, in this version the friends all seem to be having rapid sex and being stabbed to death... very creative, oh wait I think there's one strangulation?

All rushed into the last part of the film, no suspense, no fun,  thanks a lot Rob!

:D What do you think???? (It's late, and I am not going to even proof read this so sorry for any errors, I type too fast :|)

About me/Why am I here?

ME:
Yikes Talk about pose!

And again?

Everybody I know seems to have blogs and are updating them so I thought, okay, I'll see what the fuss is about. So I wanted to create my own but I knew i needed to focus it on something! Very plain and simple. I LOVE Film/tv.

I study English and Film for my degree so I thought I'll focus my blog around that and I intend to do just that.

Mr Hollywood? Why this cheesy title?
Basically because I love Hollywood, which sounds so tacky even just writing it! I just love the place, the affect it has on not just those who make it out there, but on everybody as a whole. I love Hollywood movies, but get this... I RARELY go to the cinema...Yup in my eyes films really have lost their way. Today films are mainly aimed at a young teenage audience 12-18 so it's rare you get a movie that stands out i.e. a compelling drama, mind blowing thriller. I'm sure we have shorter attention spans today as nobody seems to want to watch a movie over 90 minutes, and god forbid...a black and white movie!!

There are thousands of great treasures that the film industry have made in the last century people!

So a few movies a week... my thoughts... your thoughts.. My prediction is nobody will come back to this page (LOL!) but here goes... And if there's anything else going on, in the world i don't know anything i may add a few daily inserts to see what you think...if anyone finds this page that is!
